Why community mental wellness is important.
Community mental health services can provide a vital lifeline for those struggling with mental health challenges. Rural Saskatchewan often faces unique challenges that can contribute to mental health issues, such as social isolation, limited access to resources and services, and a lack of mental health professionals. The COVID-19 pandemic has also had a significant impact on the mental health and wellbeing of individuals in rural communities. Accessible community services can help individuals to connect with other community members, learn about available mental health resources, develop coping strategies, improve emotional wellbeing, and help challenge stigma and other stereotypes around mental health.

Recognizing the importance of community mental wellness, in rural Saskatchewan, has encouraged and inspired FREE community get-togethers oriented around discussing and learning about mental health. Additionally, these events offer a safe space for individuals to meet a registered psychologist who has supported the Town of Leader and surrounding areas for three years.
By supporting mental health in rural communities, we can help to create stronger, more connected communities that support the mental health and wellbeing of all its members.
